Business Development Manager

Location: Colden Common

BPE was formed in 1997 as an independent Process Engineering Consultancy serving the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. Since that time, it has grown year on year, its success is based upon strong partnerships with clients in the UK and Europe.

We are ‘Process Led’, and we can offer a comprehensive range of Process Engineering Design expertise and experience, with integrated support for Process Safety, Project and Construction Management, 3D Piping Design and Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation. Most of our team are Chartered Chemical Engineers, and we excel on the challenging projects that require a real depth of knowledge around core Unit Operations, and in particular Reaction, Filtration, Mixing/Blending and Drying.

We are now looking for an experienced Business Development Manager (BDM) to join our team and contribute to our continued growth.

Position Overview:

Account management and relationship development are key elements of the BDM’s role, developing long term and productive opportunity pipelines for BPE. The BDM must be able to engage effectively and influence at all levels.

The BDM must ensure high levels of awareness of BPE’s capabilities, high levels of customer satisfaction and optimise potential revenue streams.

The BDM supports the implementation of the Sales and Marketing Plan to include making regular contributions to BPE’s Web Site/Social Media and Marketing Campaigns and attending/exhibiting at relevant Conferences and Seminars.

The BDM will manage enquiries from both existing and new customers and support the Proposals Manager in the development and issue of subsequent proposals/bids using BPE’s CRM System for recording and tracking.

The BDM will identify new potential customers and partners and channel market intelligence/research into the company for review/action.

Main Areas of Responsibility:

  • Sales presentations, issue of capability statements etc to sales prospects
  • Account management meetings with existing customers and partners
  • Support to the generation and issue of sales proposals/bids, to include contributing to bid planning, risk assessment and commercial strategy
  • Support to the generation of Marketing Copy used in Marketing Campaigns, web site etc
  • Identifying new potential customers/partners and organisational structures/decision makers
  • Identify new potential revenue streams for BPE, market trends and competitor activity
  • Recording all relevant activity on BPE’s CRM System and provide support to the generation of related management reports

Requirements

Technical

  • The BDM should have at least 10 years Account Management/Business Development experience and have a strong personal track record of closed sales revenue
  • Specific experience of the use/management of a CRM System and managing a Web Site via a Content Management System is required
  • Significant experience in managing a sales cycle – face to face meetings to gather/define project requirements and issuing and tracking proposals is required
  • Chemical Engineering Degree recognised by the IChemE (Desirable but not essential)

Personal

  • Self-motivated with the ability to organise and achieve a number of parallel work streams
  • Excellent communication skills, both face to face and written
  • Strong sales and negotiation techniques
  • Professional with high levels of customer focus
  • Strong IT skills to use Sales/Marketing systems, MS Office applications etc

Process Design Lead/Manager

Location: Daresbury

Position summary:

BPE are currently hiring a Process Design Lead/Manager to lead the process delivery within a project environment and execute a mixture of consultancy and design work across a number of industry sectors. The successful candidate will be the lead engineer within our Daresbury office, and will have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of that office.

The role requires an experienced process engineer, capable of demonstrating a strong knowledge of process design deliverables from concept through to detailed design, and engineering expertise across a wide range of industrial applications, particularly chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

It is anticipated that the individual is a Chartered Engineer with 15-20 years relevant experience within a contracting environment, with a desire to work in a technical role.

The ideal candidate will also have proven project / team leadership experience and significant experience with chemical engineering design packages (e.g. ASPEN, PEL) and an ability to lead / coach others in these areas.

Key responsibilities:

  • Process Team and Project Delivery Leadership
    • Complete technical and managerial responsibility of process delivery on major BPE projects.
    • Ensure the efficient running of all aspects of the process delivery within the overall policies and objectives laid down by the company.
    • Responsible for all technical matters associated with the process design and to ensure that the process designs conform with mandatory standards, local legislation and client/project requirements
  • Project Delivery
    • Lead a project design team and be able to coach and mentor more junior engineers.
    • Liaise with Clients, Project Managers and other disciplines to ensure the smooth running of the process aspects of projects. This includes the provision of adequate information for planning, cost control and equipment costing.
    • Generate / check / approve process design models, documents, drawings and reports.
    • Ensure that the process design and subsequent detailed engineering do not jeopardise the plant safety or performance.
    • Advise Project Managers of all technical risks inherent in a plant design and assist in the evaluation of these risks through to successful conclusion.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Assist in establishing operating policies and objectives directed towards ensuring profitable operations, growth of business and the enhancement of the process team’s competence and performance.
    • Identify areas of process development which are likely to benefit the company.
  • Business Development
    • Process engineering input to proposals through the generation of scopes of work
    • Support the Business Development team on sales visits, conference calls and/or client meetings.

Other Requirements

  • Chemical Engineering degree recognised by the IChemE.
  • An in depth subject knowledge in key process engineering areas. May be considered “subject matter expert” in some fields.
  • A working knowledge of process safety related regulations and methodologies
  • Hands on operating experience through a commissioning or similar role.
  • An ability to communicate via both verbal and written means to peers and to people outside of the company.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for developing further competency in Process Engineering expertise and leadership. (In terms of Experience, Sectors and Project Life Cycle).
  • Legally permitted to live and work in the UK.
  • UK Driving Licence.

Senior E&I Designer

Location: Colden Common or Daresbury

Position summary:

BPE E,C&I design team are looking for an experienced Senior E&I Designer to join them, to help meet ongoing project design objectives and to drive improvement initiatives, so as to deliver highly effective and high-quality electrical and instrument drawing standards, in both 2D and 3D environments.

Key responsibilities:

The Senior E&I Designer shall –

• Conduct site surveys and liaise with the client, throughout projects, to initiate and develop the electrical and instrument design.
• Attend internal and external project meetings.• Assist in the coordination of the project design, along with Piping, Building Services and CSA Designers and Engineers, through 3D modelling.
• Produce all types of 2D drawings, for design delivery, such as General Arrangement Drawings, Layout Drawings, Cable Route Drawings, Location Drawings, Block Cable Diagrams, Single Line Diagrams, Circuit Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams and Instrument Loop Diagrams.
• Produce all types of lists and schedules, for design delivery, such as Instrument and I/O Lists, Instrument and Electrical Cable Schedules (including cable sizing calculations), MTO/BOMs.
• Produce instrument datasheets.• Drive the development of electrical and instrument 2D and 3D standards.

The Senior E&I Designer shall be familiar with the use of British and International Standards, Company Standards, Industry Regulations, EC Directives, Health & Safety and CDM Regulations.

Skills & experience required:

The designer must have all round draughting, electrical and instrumentation abilities, and is expected to have knowledge and experience which brings a high degree of competence, in the following areas:

• Use of AutoCAD (2D and 3D).
• Use of AutoCAD MEP.
• Use of Navisworks.
• Instrument loop (pressure, temperature, flow, level etc) design.• Design of electrical circuits including motor controls, LV distribution, lighting and earthing.
• Electrical requirements in Hazardous Areas, where a risk of explosion from dusts and gases exist.
• Process control system architectures and I/O interfacing.
• Use of Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook

The following competencies are highly desirable –

• Use of Revit.
• Use of Amtech Electrical Design software.• Ability to complete IS circuit compliance calculations.

Undergraduate Industrial Placements

BPE are keen to support undergraduate Chemical Engineers and run a Summer Placement programme offering a 2nd or 3rd year Chemical Engineering Undergraduate eight weeks work experience during July and August. Based at our Colden Common office, the placement typically includes some CAD, process modelling and HAZOP scribe experience, and site and sales visits where possible although the nature of the work very much depends on our project and client portfolio at the time.  Applications for Summer 2018 are now closed.
