Senior Process Engineer

Winchester or Daresbury

We are currently hiring a Senior Process Engineer to supervise / lead junior engineers within a project environment and execute a mixture of consultancy and design work across a number of industry sectors.

The role requires an experienced process engineer, capable of demonstrating a strong knowledge of process design deliverables from concept through to detailed design, and engineering expertise across a wide range of industrial applications, particularly chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

It is anticipated that the individual is a Chartered Engineer with 5-10 years relevant experience with a desire to work in a technical role. Experience within a consultancy / contracting environment would be an advantage.

The ideal candidate will either have proven technical project / team leadership experience or be looking to develop in this area. Additionally, experience with chemical engineering design packages (e.g. ASPEN, PEL) and an ability to lead / coach others in these areas is highly desirable.

Key responsibilities

  • Project Delivery Leadership
  • Support the Lead Engineer on larger projects or perform the Lead Engineer role on smaller projects.
  • Ensure the efficient running of all aspects of the process delivery within the overall policies and objectives laid down by the company.
  • Responsible for all technical matters associated with the process design and to ensure that the process designs conform with mandatory standards, local legislation and client/project requirements

Project Delivery

  • Liaise with Clients, Project Managers, Lead Engineers and other disciplines to ensure the smooth running of the process aspects of projects. This includes the provision of adequate information for planning, cost control and equipment costing.
  • Generate and check process design models, documents, drawings and reports.
  • Ensure that the process design and subsequent detailed engineering do not jeopardise the plant safety or performance.
  • Advise Project Managers and Lead Engineers of all technical risks inherent in a plant design and assist in the evaluation of these risks through to successful conclusion.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Identify those procedures, practices and standards required by the process team to efficiently carry out its work, and co-ordinate preparation of such.
  • Identify areas of process development which are likely to benefit the company.

Other Requirements

  • Chemical Engineering degree recognised by the IChemE.
  • A working knowledge of process safety related regulations and methodologies
  • Hands on operating experience through a commissioning or similar role.
  • An ability to communicate via both verbal and written means to peers and to people outside of the company.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for developing further competency in Process Engineering expertise and leadership. (In terms of Experience, Sectors and Project Life Cycle).
  • Legally permitted to live and work in the UK.
  • UK Driving Licence.

Process Design Lead / Consultant

We are currently hiring a Process Design Lead / Consultant to lead the process delivery within a project environment and execute a mixture of consultancy and design work across a number of industry sectors.

The role requires an experienced process engineer, capable of demonstrating a strong knowledge of process design deliverables from concept through to detailed design, and engineering expertise across a wide range of industrial applications, with particularly strong experience in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors.

It is anticipated that the individual is a Chartered Engineer with 15-20 years relevant experience, ideally within a contracting environment, with a desire to work in a technical role.

The ideal candidate will also have proven project / team leadership experience and significant experience with chemical engineering design packages (e.g. ASPEN, PEL) and an ability to lead / coach others in these areas.

Key responsibilities

  • Project Delivery Leadership
  • Complete technical and managerial responsibility of process delivery on major BPE projects.
  • Ensure the efficient running of all aspects of the process delivery within the overall policies and objectives laid down by the company.

  • Business Development
  • Support the Business Development team on sales visits, conference calls and/or client meetings.
  • Lead / support the production of compelling and competitive proposals.
    Generate / check / approve scope of work write-ups and manhour estimates to comply with tender requirements.

Other Requirements

  • Chemical Engineering degree recognised by the IChemE.
  • An in depth subject knowledge in key process engineering areas. May be considered “subject matter expert” in some fields.
  • A working knowledge of process safety related regulations and methodologies
  • Hands on operating experience through a commissioning or similar role.

Senior Project Engineer

Winchester

Reporting to the Projects and Engineering Director, the role will be responsible for the successful delivery of a portfolio of smaller projects but you will also be expected to work with the project managers on larger projects to aid successful delivery.

You will be expected to orchestrate the discipline engineers in order to achieve project delivery within time, cost and quality constraints and should have a track record of successful project delivery within a design / consultancy environment.

You should be a confident communicator and problem solver who can escalate issues when necessary to ensure successful project delivery.

This is a key position in the company providing the relationship link within the project team(s), to the BPE senior management and also externally to BPE clients, therefore good communication skills are essential.

Requirements
Technical

  • Engineering degree recognised by an Institution, Chartered Engineer
  • Project Management qualified, APM, Prince 2, PMI or equivalent – or working towards such
  • Understanding of the works to be delivered by the individual disciplines within a project such that they can plan work to achieve the project goals
  • Typically 5 – 10 years of experience in a project role within a design office or a consultancy company
  • Good subject knowledge of chemical/biochemical process plants. Ability to liaise on a technical level with the BPE and client teams
  • An ability to communicate via both verbal and written means to peers and to people outside of the company, report writing and other written work to be completed appropriately.
  • Experience of operations & projects within a GMP environment would be beneficial
  • Proficient in MS Office suite including, MS Project, Excel and Word.

Business Support Manager

BPE is a design consultancy offering a comprehensive range of Chemical Engineering Design services to the Process Industries.

We are looking for a permanent, full-time experienced Business Support Manager to supervise the overall requirements that enable the business to efficiently function day to day.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a commitment to the role with a good variety of skills in general office business methods and be able to motivate and lead a small team.  Excellent organisational skills are essential with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work under their own initiative. Good oral and written communication skills will be required along with a working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite.

Mechanical & Piping Designer (Sub-Contract)

Winchester

Position summary:

BPE are currently hiring a Mechanical & Piping Designer for our Winchester office to help with a mixture of site and design work within the Pharmaceutical & Chemical industries. This is a contract position.

Key responsibilities

  • Conversant in materials of construction, functions and impact of stress analysis, insulation, installed instruments commonly used.
  • Thorough understanding of common equipment and capable of routing all major process and utility piping in accordance with P&IDs and project standards, including the impact of specific service conditions on piping design.
  • Experienced in more complex piping systems such as lined and jacketed pipe and impact of material supply and fabrication on piping design.
  • Ensuring that conventional HS&E protection requirements are embodied in the designs.

Takes a hands-on and lead role with responsibility for all piping design and layout in an assigned area including;

  • Setting piping layout concepts
  • Assuring quality and consistency and ensuring that safety
  • Operation
  • Maintenance and construction requirements are incorporated
  • Support a cost focussed approach to plant layout and piping design such that installed and operational costs are minimised

 

Skills & experience required

  • Suitable Professional Qualification or relevant experience.
  • Relevant Piping Design Engineering experience in the Pharmaceutical or Chemical industry
  • Relevant Piping Design Engineering experience of clean piping systems ASME BPE
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytic, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • 3D experience is essential, Plant3D would be an advantage or Other AutoCAD based 3D package i.e. Autoplant etc. would be considered.

 Junior CAD Designer

Winchester

£16,000 – £18,000 per annum (plus benefits)

BPE was formed in 1997 as an independent Process Engineering Consultancy serving the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. Since that time, it has grown year on year, its success is based upon strong partnerships with clients in the UK and Europe.

We are ‘Process Led’ and can offer a comprehensive range of Process Engineering Design expertise and experience, with integrated support for Process Safety, Project and Construction Management, 3D Piping Design and Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation. Most of our team are Chartered Chemical Engineers, and we excel on the challenging projects that require a real depth of knowledge around core Unit Operations, in particular Reaction, Filtration, Mixing/Blending and Drying.

We are looking to welcome a Junior CAD Designer.  The successful applicant will have a strong eye for detail with good self-management and a desire to learn and develop further skills.  It would be highly advantageous to have a working knowledge and confidence in using Autocad, although full training will be provided to cover all aspects of the role.

Key responsibilities:

Supporting the engineering output for the business with CAD designs and learning the processes within the department.  You will start with 2D designs with the desire to develop to 3D in the future.  There may also be opportunities to work off-site for further work experience.

Required experience:

  • Experience of using Autocad – 1 year
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Competent computer skills/MS Office
  • Good written and verbal communication

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a small team

Undergraduate Industrial Placements

BPE are keen to support undergraduate Chemical Engineers and run a Summer Placement programme offering a 2nd or 3rd year Chemical Engineering Undergraduate eight weeks work experience during July and August. Based at our Colden Common office, the placement typically includes some CAD, process modelling and HAZOP scribe experience, and site and sales visits where possible although the nature of the work very much depends on our project and client portfolio at the time.  Applications for Summer 2018 are now closed.
