Cellulose Acetate Flake Manufacture

Client: Confidential – Consumer Goods Manufacturer - UK

Our client manufactured products which included cellulose acetate fibre. As a means of improving margins, they required an assessment of the economic benefits of manufacturing the fibre themselves, direct from cellulose acetate through a chemical process to prepare a solution in acetone/PEG which was then spun into the fibre. Key was the cost of goods of the fibre manufactured themselves versus the completion.

•Establishment of the process route through technology investigations
•Completion of a concept design to include PFDs and main plant item specifications
•Capital cost estimate of the plant
•Operating cost of the plant
•Venture analysis to include depreciation producing a cost per kg of CA fibre
