Basis of Design for expansion of Compounding/Filling facilities

Client: Confidential Client, Ireland

The Brief

As part of a need to increase manufacturing capacity, our client engaged us to complete a Basis of Design study for a proposed sterile filling. BPE were directly responsible for the new compounding facilities associated with the upgrade, which included vessels, Thermal Control Units and dedicated CIP Skid.

The Challenges

Key challenges for the design project were the need for the proposed installation to cause minimal disruption to the existing operations and for the new equipment to be installed against tight available space constraints. cGMP compliance was a key requirement for the proposed new facilities.

The Response

BPE worked alongside a specialist Architectural Consultancy to meet the requirements of the project and delivered Process Design, Process Piping, Process Controls/Instrumentation, Process Equipment, Process Utilities and Process Safety support. A key part of the design process was the early stage optioneering workshops to identify and review all available solutions.

The Result

A fully optimised design solution was developed allowing the client to progress to Detailed Design and execution of the project which was successfully completed.
