Graduate Electrical Engineer

Qualifications

Candidates will be graduating in 2017 or will have 1 to 3 years’ experience and with a minimum of a Grade 2:1 in Electrical Engineering.

The successful candidate will undertake an initial 12-18 month training programme during which they will work within each of the discipline departments within BPE. BPE will provide mentoring and utilise client and project specific opportunities to best ensure that the successful candidate gains maximum development and learning exposure. BPE will also support relevant training (internal and externally-sourced) and ongoing Continuous Professional Development. BPE will support the successful candidate’s development towards gaining Chartered Engineer status.

Experience

The work is varied and challenging and will expose the successful candidate to a range of engineering and management activities, industrial sectors and technologies.

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate;

A good understanding of electrical engineering principles and their application to industrial processes.

  • An ability to solve problems and produce practical, cost effective solutions.
  • A fervour to learn and develop.
  • Effective professional communication both written and verbal, and to present themselves and BPE in a favourable light to clients.
  • Good interpersonal skills that promote effective team working.

A good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite primarily Word and Excel is required. Experience of AutoCAD would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The role will involve providing support to senior and principal engineers in Electrical, Instrument and Control design assignments within ‘Brownfield’ and ‘Greenfield’ multi-disciplined projects. Projects may be for Feasibility, Concept, Front End and Detailed Design stages.

The role will require the development of a thorough understanding of British, European and International standards associated with electrical, instrumentation and functional safety engineering. Exposure to LV Electrical Distribution design to BS7671 will be provided, using industry leading design software; measurement and control instrumentation technologies; Ethernet TCP/IP and industrial ethernet networking; Fieldbus communications; wireless instrument technologies; PLC, SCADA and DCS based control; Functional Safety in line with IEC61508 and IEC61511.

The role will require becoming skilled in 2D AutoCAD and draughting Electrical and Instrument drawings such as P&IDs, Single Line Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams, Network Diagrams and Instrument Loop Drawings. There will be opportunities to become proficient with 3D Modelling software (AutoCAD SmartPlant) so cable containment routes and electrical / instrument layouts are co-ordinated within project models.

The role will present opportunities to participate in Process Safety review and analysis, such as HAZOP, LOPA, SIL Assessment.

During design assignments, the role includes development of design documentation, under supervision, for the following areas;

  • Facility lighting and small power specification and layout.
  • Specification of LV Distribution and Motor Control Centres for process and utilities equipment.
  • Specification of instruments and actuated valves.
  • Specification of computerised control systems.
  • Generation of Electrical and instrument equipment and cable schedules.
  • Instrument and I/O take-off and scheduling.
  • Specification of Electrical and Instrumentation installation requirements and installation scope.
  • Hazardous Area Electrical and instrumentation circuit design.
  • Electrical and Instrumentation calculations.
  • Safety Instrumented System specification.
  • Safety Instrumented Function design and SIL Verification calculations.
  • Cost of works estimates

Summary

Location - Winchester, Hampshire or Warrington, Cheshire

Salary - Competitive plus bonus scheme

Hours: (40 hours per week)

8.30 – 5.30pm (Monday to Thursday), with option to finish early on a Friday.

Experienced Biochemical or Chemical Engineering Professionals

You will be self-motivated and organised with a demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with clients and peers at all levels. You will be UK Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Chemical and/or Bio-Chemical Engineering.

You will be reliable with a professional and personable demeanour and have a proven track record of positive leadership in multi-discipline teams.

Previous experience, or a desire, to work within an engineering consultancy environment is essential and you would be expected, as a minimum, to be able to;

  • Compile and present engineering capability to potential clients in support of proposals
  • Lead and advise others in the delivery of engineering solutions
  • Carry out detailed process and/or equipment engineering including preparation of calculations and drawings, both directly and through supervision of other engineers.
  • Review designs, reports and installations for compliance with design intent, GXP and H&S requirements

It would be expected that you have a desire to advance the status of the process engineering profession as well as your own skills and expertise together with that of others within the company.

Experienced Electrical/Instrument Engineering Professionals

You will be a self-motivated and organised individual with a UK Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an instrument or electrical engineering subject with demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with both clients and peers.

You will be reliable with a professional and personable demeanour and a proven track record of positive leadership in multi-discipline teams.

Previous experience, or a desire, to work within an engineering contracting/consultancy environment is essential and you will be expected, as a minimum, to be able to;

  • Compile and present engineering capability to potential clients in support of proposals
  • Lead and advise others in the delivery of engineering solutions including preparation of specifications, calculations and drawings, both directly and through supervision of other engineers and designers
  • Review designs, reports and installations for compliance with design intent, GXP, H&S requirements and Hazardous Area / ATEX requirements

A good practical knowledge of the following engineering subjects would be considered advantageous:

  • Process instrumentation and measurement techniques and specification
  • Pharmaceutical Facility experience
  • Hazardous Areas
  • DCS and PLC specification, including hardware, wiring and configuration
  • SIL ratings and safety circuit specification
  • Server and network specification
  • Electrical and Instrument circuit designs
  • Lighting and small power specification
  • Site installation and commissioning work experience within the process or pharmaceutical industries

The Location

The place of work will be principally BPE’s offices with site visits or assignments on a case by case basis.

The ability to present themselves to Clients in a positive light and to give confidence in work presented. Time on site may be regular and here the incumbent must show initiative in adapting to new environments and interacting with new people such that the information flow is maintained and projects are progressed.

Computer Skills

Must be adept in use of MS Office based programs, particularly Excel, Word, Explorer and Outlook and ideally MS Project to basic level. All specifications reports and data sheets shall be produced by you from company templates; your typing skills shall be excellent.

Able to clearly communicate via both verbal and written means to peers and to people outside of the company. Report writing and other written work is to be completed with clarity and skill within an acceptable time frame.
Commercial Skills
