Formaldehyde Tank for Famous Artist:

BPE “preserve” their ever-widening interests in process design with a departure into modern art. Earlier this year BPE were engaged to review the materials of construction used in a new Science Studio with respect to compatibility with formaldehyde for a famous British Artist renowned for his embalmed exhibits of animals. Our involvement with the project continues, but our initial report was concerned with the materials used in the plant, and their compatibility with formaldehyde. The greatly important formaldehyde at 20% solution in water was being delivered to the Studio to be used to embalm animals for an artistic outcome. Depending upon the animal to be embalmed, the 20% solution was either diluted in a ratio 1:9 (2%) or 1: 4 (4%). The studio’s main concerns were with the liquid effluent systems and floors/walls that may be exposed to the liquid. Both formaldehyde and formic acid solutions present risks to certain materials- and so BPE gave advice regarding the acceptability of the materials that were currently proposed for the installation. More recently, BPE were also approached concerning a specification for the famous formaldehyde tank, but at this time no further information can be released.
