BPE currently have the following positions available at their offices in Colden Common near Winchester, Hampshire.
Senior Instrument & Electrical Engineer
Competitive salary dependant on experience. Immediate start available.
Qualifications
UK Degree qualified in an Electrical, Electronic or Instrument Engineering subject.
Valid UK driving licence.
Experience
A proven practical knowledge of the following:
- ATEX and Safety System standards
- Fine Chemical Processes
- Pharmaceutical Process Equipment
- Process Instrumentation Specification
- Electrical and Instrumentation Circuit Design
- DCS and PLC Specification
- Server and Networking Specification
- Lighting and Small Power Specification
- The ability to program Siemens and AB PLC’s and HMI’s would be an advantage.
- You shall have had considerable site experience, understanding installation techniques commissioning and site safety.
- You shall have Office and AutoCAD experience and be able to produce all the relevant project documentation. A working knowledge of MS Project would be a benefit.
Organisational Position
Reporting directly to the Systems Director.
Purpose
To support all the I&E Engineering project requirements within BPE you will be involved in the instrument and electrical design content of most of the projects which pass through the office. Based at our offices outside Winchester you will also be expected to travel to site as required to liaise with our clients and perform FAT’s, inspections, commissioning and validation as dictated by the project.
Technical
A broad understanding of control systems, instrumentation and electrical systems to support all relevant project’s. The job profile shall include the following:
Instrument and Electrical Diagrams
A typical project may involve some or all of the following:
Panel Wiring, Cable Routing, Electrical Single Line, Lighting Layout, Instrument Schedule, I/O Schedule. Also involvement in mechanizing P&ID’s, and arranging Plant Layouts.
Specifications
Generation of Control and Safety System Specifications, Instruments Datasheets, Functional Design Specifications, Panel Specifications, Installation Specifications.
Industry Standards and Codes
Familiarisation with the main codes and standards applicable to plant design, particularly ATEX 94/9/EC and IEC Ex design standards for hazardous areas, 61508 & 61511 for safety systems, 21CFR pt.11 for pharmaceutical systems.
Calculations
Perform cable sizing in accordance with IEEE Regulations, occasionally Orifice plate sizing.
IT Support
To support the office IT systems a good working knowledge of office networking, IP Phones, Windows PC’s and printers would be beneficial as a first point of call before involving our IT support company.
Company Representative
The ability to present themselves to Clients in a positive light and to give confidence in work presented. Time on site may be regular and here the incumbent must show initiative in adapting to new environments and interacting with new people such that the information flow is maintained and projects are progressed.
Company Development
Liaise and attend meetings with other company functions necessary to perform duties and aid business and organisational development. Willingness to attend training and to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
Personality
Self-motivated with a positive outlook and always with a view to improve skills and build upon opportunities given. Well presented, businesslike, reliable, tolerant and determined to succeed. Sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel up to a few days a month within the UK. Keen for new experiences, responsibility and accountability. Able to get on with others and be a team-player, together with an ability to communicate within a project team environment.
Computer Skills
Must be adept in use of MS Office based programs, particularly Excel, Word, Explorer and Outlook and ideally MS Project to basic level. All specifications reports and data sheets shall be produced by you from company templates; your typing skills shall be excellent.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Able to clearly communicate via both verbal and written means to peers and to people outside of the company. Report writing and other written work is to be completed with clarity and skill within an acceptable time frame.
Commercial Skills
The individual shall recognise that delivery of work to time, budget and quality is essential for the profitability of the company. Also the individual is to be aware that Client interaction has a positive impact on the award of work to the company.
Management Ability
Although internal staff management is not initially part of the job, responsibility the opportunity could grow with the development of the individual particularly with respect to managing sub-contractors or the entire project. Time management for the individual and that of their own work is essential.
